Not just a perfume! Patchouli oil is greatly overlooked by many people, and even those who have a general interest in Aromatherapy, sometimes fail to make the most of this oil. Some people consider it to have long associations with the hippy era but the truth of the matter is that Patchouli essential oil has s
ome wonderful health benefits and should be incorporated into any natural first aid kit. For those people who need their emotions balanced and who are fighting against depression or anxieties, then this essential oil is the one to choose, with its strong sweet and musky scent, it also contains spicy tones guaranteed to uplift mood. Patchouli essential oil has many therapeutic qualities including: Antiseptic Fungicide Insecticide Sedative Tonic Anti-depressant Aphrodisiac This oil is so versatile in that it can be used to relieve insect bites or as an insect repellant, it helps to reduce cellulite and water retention, so it is a wonderful all round oil to have in the home. The oil also has many healing qualities such as regenerating skin tissue and promoting not only faster healing but reducing the chance of scarring after. Renowned for its benefits for healing rough and chapped skin, it also improves those conditions of eczema, fungal infections and acne. For many however, the most important quality is as a mood enhancer whilst managing to help balance the emotions. Depression and anxieties naturally induce a sense of lethargy and this wonderful oil can help to stabilize and improve this aspect. It can be used in many ways: Vaporiser and Burners This is a wonderful way to lighten the atmosphere and improve dark feelings of depression and sadness. Massage oil Mix the oil with a good base oil such as Almond oil and use as a massage. Can help to ease depression as well as to improve dermatitis and ease constipation. Lotions or creams Patchouli oil works well in lotions or creams and is wonderful for regenerating skin and fighting infections. Meditation When trying to combat anxieties and relieve depression, couple meditation with Patchouli oil and the two will compliment each other beautifully. The oil will heighten the senses and improve the benefits of meditation and will help to create a sense of calm and inner peace. Affirmations Use an affirmation before or after your meditation and again, couple this with using patchouli oil in a burner or vaporizer. Affirmations are powerful statements of fact such as ‘I am going to feel emotionally strong' Hand written affirmations become very powerful as they are written from an individual perspective.

Create a peaceful meditation space without a lot of expense.

9 Cheap ways to make your place peaceful and conducive to meditation

1. Use candle light
Candles are a traditional offering that originated in India. Candles were the main representation of light which is an offering that is made to your teacher or the Buddha as a symbol of the light of the teachings. When you offer a candle on your altar you make the aspiration that the light of peace and happiness spreads throughout the universe and that the light of compassion vanquishes the darkness of anger and hatred. They are a very nice way to calm your senses and the room.

2. Create more space
The great masters of the past recommended that beginners meditate in a place with lots of space. This could mean a hill, mountain or a valley where you can look out over a big view. In occurred to me recently that many people live in apartments with a view of the city or neighborhood. Sitting by your window would be an ideal place to meditate. Failing that, at least create some space in your room by removing clutter and mess.

3. Clean up
An old Buddhist teacher once told me that it was important to clean your room before every session of meditation. As I grow older I see the importance of this – the mind settles a lot easier in a neat and tidy room. Your eyes have less material to wander on to and you feel less anxious because you know you have done a small part of the house chores.

4. Get natural light
I really don’t like meditating in a room with fluorescent lights flickering away. It is much better to have some sun or the natural light of a candle. Again, I think this type of light is “warmer” and much more natural. A strong fluoro light will be distracting and harsh on the old eyes.

5. Open a window
Fresh air is marvelous for meditation. It allows you to breath in deeply and feel like you are not trapped in a little cell like a monk on a three year retreat. I love opening my window when I meditate. This also has the bonus advantage of keeping you a bit cooler which is good for concentration. If you are too warm you are likely to drift off to sleep.

6. Get a Buddha statue
The Buddha was a truly inspirational figure. He wasn’t a god or a superhuman being. He was an ordinary guy like you and me. I find the statues of the Buddha extremely inspiring because they symbolize the work and hardship that he went through. Most importantly, however, they communicate the very true fact that you can do it to. Sitting down in front of a statue of someone who has completed the path is very, very inspiring. You can get some nice Buddha statues here.

7. Buy some flowers
Many ancient Tibetan and Indian texts speak of the value of having flowers in a room where you meditate. It is thought that flowers have a very good effect on the mind because they are always associated with happiness, good harvest and other positive things. The texts say that any place that has fresh flowers will be very peaceful. I tend to agree. My mother always had several bunches of flowers around our house and it always made it feel lighter and more homely. Try it in your meditation place.

8. Play some chanting music during the day
There are so many great relaxation CDs from Buddhist Chanting to natural sounds, from relaxing music to guided meditations. We carry a great stock which can also be purchased here

9. Burn some incense
If you find the right stuff incense can be really useful to your health and your meditation. In Tibet there was a great medical tantra that was passed down from a great master to his students. In that tantra it explained how to make incense that would heal serious illnesses and clear away blockages of the internal energy. It explained that many diseases can be caused by such blockages and burning incense is a good way to remove them. But of course you have to get the right stuff. Some seriously good incense can be bought here.

It doesn’t take much
It really doesn’t take much to make a room a little bit more peaceful. If anyone has any other tips they would like to share that would be great!

Valentines Love Spell

I thought it would be cool between now and valentines to publish some
Love spells so I have asked some friends and customers to mail me some. Here's the first one from Elaine. Good luck.

This spell really does work. I have used it and actually I met my husband just a few weeks after I performed it. It is very specific and must be followed exactly.

Best Night: Friday
Best Moon: Full

Things you will need:

1 sheet of lined paper

1 Red pen or marker

1 letter envelope

your favorite perfume

your favorite shade of red lipstick

a few Pink or Red flower petals

Write out the qualities you want in a lover on the sheet of paper using the pen.

Next spritz the paper with your perfume.

Fold the paper and place it in the envelope.

Now take the flower petals, hold them in your RIGHT hand. Envision yourself happy and in love, squeezing the petals tight in your hand. Keep envisioning this scene.

Drop the petals into the envelope. Seal the envelope closed and seal the whole spell with a kiss. Apply the red lipstick and kiss the envelope!!

Place in a safe place. NEVER open it again, if you do this will break the spell.

*NOTE: DO NOT USE CHARACTERS/QUALITIES SPECIFIC TO A CERTAIN PERSON. THE SPELL WILL NOT WORK THAT WAY!!!!

Make your own massage oils

Making a massage oil.
Cinnamoon Essential and carrier oils are of the finest quality and at a price that makes it so easy to make your own massage oils. Or we have ready blended bottles of massage oils for you to enjoy.

Make your own homemade relaxing massage oil and customize the scent by using one essential oil or a blend of several oils. You can also choose a carrier oil of your preference.

Step 1
Pour 1/2 cup of your chosen carrier oil into a nonreactive glass or ceramic bowl. You may use any carrier oil and we have a nice selection at Cinnamoon. Almond oil may be used but is not recommended for use on sensitive skin. In her book, "Natural Beauty at Home," Janice Cox suggests that you may also use any light oil, such as apricot kernel or avocado oil, when making a homemade massage oil. Additionally, some practitioners choose to use sesame oil, but this scent may react with your essential oils.

Step 2
Mix 2 or 3 drops of your chosen essential oil into the carrier oil. The Wellness Directory lists scents that are known to induce relaxation, including lavender, rose, jasmine or orange blossom. When you see how little essential oil you use, you can see that Cinnamoon essential oils are great value starting at £1.99 for a 10ml bottle with built in dropper. You may use one essential oil, or you may wish to experiment with a blend of some of these oils to find a scent that you find pleasing.

Step 3
Pour the oil blend into a glass jar or other nonreactive container for storage, but be sure to allow the mixture to sit for at least an hour so that the carrier oil can fully absorb the properties of the essential oil. You can store this oil in this container in a cool, dark place for several months. If the mixture develops a funny smell or sour odor, do not use and discard the unused portion.

Basic Dowsing with Pendulums

Pendulum dowsing is an ancient art of accessing information not available to us through the use of our senses.

Basic dowsing pendulum consists of a weight suspended on a flexible string, chain, etc. Any such combination will give radiesthetic (dowsing) reaction in the hand of a "sensitive" person. (In my opinion, only a very small percentage of people don't get any reaction, even after basic training.)

Why there are so many different pendulums? I think it's a matter of a personal preference, one dowsing pendulum is more suitable for one task, another one is more sensitive then others, some have special qualities that make dowsing tasks easier.

Pendulum dowsing basics

First we need to learn how to hold the pendulum. We use the thumb, the index and the middle finger of your dominant hand to hold the string or the chaing of a pendulum. (Some dowsers use only the thumb and the index finger).

We bend our wrist so that the fingers with the string or chain are close to vertical.

Now - we need to program the "yes" and "no" movement for our pendulum. Actually it is our subconscious mind that we program, not the pendulum.

We start by asking "what is the movement for the "yes" answer and the pendulum will start moving. Let it establish a clear pattern. It could be clockwise rotation, back and forth, or something else - it's individual. Now we do the same for the "no" answer. You can program other ansers after you have a chance to "play" with it for a while.

If your pendulum doesn't move at all - please try to take a few deep breaths and try not to control your muscles. There will be a movement in your arm, otherwise the pendulum couldn't move, but it's involuntary, so don't worry about it.

Pendulum dowsing is much more than asking yes and no questions, but this is the basic dowsing that you need to learn first.
